Alpha and the 250 Crore Question Facing the Spy Universe
Two weeks in, YRF's first female-led spy chapter is testing the arithmetic that holds the franchise together.

Alpha stands at roughly 53 crore net in India after two weeks, against a reported production and promotion cost near 250 crore. On theatrical numbers alone the film will not recover its outlay, and recovery now depends on overseas collections and a large satellite and streaming package.
The more interesting question for the trade is not the loss but the sequencing. The YRF Spy Universe has functioned on a rhythm where each film funds the ambition of the next. A result of this size does not end that rhythm, but it slows it, and it puts pressure on the casting and budget decisions of the entries that follow.
Shiv Rawail directs in his feature debut, with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari leading and Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in support. The screenplay is credited to Shridhar Raghavan, Ishita Moitra, Soumil Shukla and Uday Chopra, with cinematography by Rubais.
Reviews praised the action design and background score while criticising the writing, a split that rarely produces long legs in the Hindi market.
