The trade, in writing
Deals, openings, slates and the business behind the business. Like it, share it, leave your word.
Nolan's Homer epic opens today with the year's biggest Hollywood advance in India.
National chains alone moved 1.4 lakh tickets before the first show, putting the film on course for a 20 crore gross opening day. IMAX screens in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru sold out the entire weekend by Wednesday night. For exhibitors, this is the strongest Hollywood pre-sale since Oppenheimer.
The streamer picks up post-theatrical rights as the comedy wraps week one at 96 crore.
Trade reports say Netflix has acquired streaming rights to Indra Kumar's ensemble comedy, with a drop expected in the first week of September, roughly eight weeks after release. With 96 crore net in week one and open runway until Spider-Man arrives, the theatrical side still has room to push toward the Hit column.
Nitesh Tiwari's Diwali epic premieres its trailer in San Diego on 24 July.
Prime Focus is taking Ranbir Kapoor and Yash global before going home: the first trailer of Ramayana Part One premieres at San Diego Comic-Con next Friday. With a reported budget near 900 crore and a score by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, it is the single biggest bet on the 2026 board.
Ram Charan's sports drama stays 2026's biggest South Indian film heading into the monsoon window.
Buchi Babu Sana's rural sports drama closed its run at roughly 378 crore gross worldwide, keeping Ram Charan ahead of Chiranjeevi's Sankranti winner and Suriya's Karuppu on the year's chart. Mythri Movie Makers now turns to its next slate with the strongest 2026 scorecard of any southern studio.
Two weeks in, YRF's first female-led spy chapter is testing the universe's economics.
At 53 crore net against a reported 250 crore cost, Alpha is the Spy Universe's first genuine stumble in theatres. The film's fate now rests on overseas legs and a large satellite and streaming package. For the trade, the real question is sequencing: how the result shapes the timeline for the next Tiger and Pathaan entries.
Red Chillies confirms 24 December for Siddharth Anand's action thriller.
Shah Rukh Khan's King takes the Christmas window with Deepika Padukone and Suhana Khan alongside. It sets up a December face-off calendar collectors will love: Ranger on the 4th, Fauzi mid-month, and King closing the year. Exhibitors are already calling it the strongest December lineup of the decade.
