Tollywood Is Having Its Second-Best Phase of 2026, After Sankranti
Peddi brought audiences back. Maa Inti Bangaram turned that into a blockbuster wave. Now Nagabandham and Rao Bahadur test whether July can keep the momentum.

Telugu cinema is in the middle of its second-strongest commercial phase of 2026, trailing only the traditional Sankranti season. Peddi opened the run, and while it fell short of its most ambitious pre-release expectations, it performed solidly enough to pull summer audiences back into theatres.
What followed mattered more. Samantha's Maa Inti Bangaram exceeded expectations outright and turned into a genuine blockbuster, giving the industry proof that mid-scale, star-driven content still travels without needing a 300 crore budget behind it.
The next test arrives with Nagabandham, a fantasy-adventure banking on visual scale under director Abhishek Nama, and Rao Bahadur, both carrying healthy pre-release buzz. If either connects, Tollywood extends a run that started at Sankranti through the middle of the year, a rare stretch of sustained health for the industry.
