Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened in India on 30 July with 60.60 crore net across 17,250 shows, on an India gross of 72.44 crore. That is the largest opening day any non-Indian film has recorded in this market, clearing the previous Hollywood benchmark comfortably rather than narrowly.
The film released here a day ahead of its worldwide bow, and the occupancy pattern explains the size of the number: English shows ran at 56.58 percent overall, with night shows peaking above 65 percent and evening shows at 58.78 percent. Pre-sales had already crossed two million tickets on BookMyShow before the first show, a figure no Hollywood title had previously reached in India.
Internationally the picture is the same shape. China opened at 35 million dollars, the second-biggest debut for a non-Chinese title in the post-pandemic era, with the United Kingdom at 7.8 million, Mexico at 7.3 million and France at 6.75 million. The immediate effect on the Indian board is that every holdover lost screens overnight, most visibly The Odyssey, which fell to roughly a thousand shows a day.
